Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The area of a possible World War Two minefield is visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1). The earthworks are centred on TF 9627 4315, covering an area 80m by 50m. The craters vary in size from 2.5m to 10m across. A ditch or channel has been cut running from TF 9622 4316 to TF 9628 4319. This has narrow branches coming off at three points, which lead to the northern most three craters. It seems likely that this is a World War Two minefield, which has been exploded or removed. Although it is near a large military site (NHER 12747), it does not appear to serve any obvious defensive purpose. It is possible that it is a training or practice area, rather than part of any actual defences.
S. Massey (NMP), 23 October 2002.
