Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The remains of circular concrete structure, possibly a pillbox, is visible on aerial photographs on the edge of the saltmarshes at Stiffkey (S1). This structure consists of a circular wall, 7m in diameter and centred on TF 9849 4415. This wall is less than 1m wide and may represent the base or roofless shell of a circular structure. It has a 3m wide gap or entrance to the southeast and conjoined to the north is a small rectangular annex or blast wall, centred on TF 9849 4415 and measuring 1.5m by 0.5m. It seems likely, as they are visible in 1945 that these structures may be military in origin, presumably part of the World War Two coastal defence of the area, although it is also possible that they are earlier and World War One in date.
S. Massey (NMP), 26 February 2003.
