Full Description
November 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Banks and ditches are visible as cropmarks (and perhaps slight earthworks) on aerial photographs (S1)-(S5), centred at TG 3264 2950. They are principally visible between TG 3270 2968 and TG 3294 2959, and TG 3245 2956 and TG 3264 2926. They appear to represent former boundaries and trackways, probably of medieval to post medieval date given their general character and their relationship with the modern field pattern. Those which are depicted on historic Ordnance Survey maps, such as the 1st edition 6 inch (S6), have not been mapped by the NMP. Some of those that have been mapped by the NMP equate to boundaries depicted on earlier maps, such as Crostwight Tithe Map of 1838 (S7), and one also follows the parish boundary. The eventual redundancy of these boundaries may relate to the establishment of Honing Park (NHER 29496) to their southeast. Some may represent wood banks that perhaps enclosed Brick Kiln Grove and Moat Plantation within a single wood.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 29 November 2006.
