Map

November 2006. Norfolk NMP
Earthworks and cropmarks of a possible medieval moat are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These earthworks were centred on TG 3259 1842. Earthworks of a rectangular enclosure were present to the south of North Farm at Hoveton. The enclosure lay on a roughly north to south axis was defined by a 3m wide ditch that broadened out to over 6m in the southwest corner. Internally the enclosure measured 36m by 19m. It lies immediately to the south of the garden of North Farm and has a similar alignment. North Farm (NHER 23036) is a 16th century farmhouse that may have had a medieval precursor. It is possible that the enclosure is a moat or post medieval garden feature. It was visible as an earthwork in 1946 (S1) but had been levelled and was only present as a cropmark by 1958 (S2).
