Full Description
December 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of two ring ditches, probably both relating to Bronze Age round barrows, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 2998 1925. A small single ring ditch is located at TG 2996 1923. It has a slightly sub-circular plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of 10m. Located 50m to its northeast at TG 3000 1927 is a double ring ditch cropmark. Its inner ditch is slightly sub-circular with a narrow ditch and a 10m diameter. The narrow outer ditch also has a slightly sub-circular plan and an 18m external diameter. The similarity in the diameter of the inner ditch and the single ring ditch to the southwest may indicate that they were contemporary with each other, and that the outer ditch was added as a later phase of the monument. It is likely that both of these ring ditches are of Bronze Age date and that they relate to round barrows. They are situated on the southwest side of a small hill at approximately 15m OD. Cropmarks of further ring ditches are located 190m to the northwest (NHER 49179) and 200m to the north (NHER 36446).
