Full Description
January 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Two possible World War Two defences are visible as extant structures on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 3275 2711. From above, they resemble giant spigot mortar pedestals, or somewhat insubstantial circular pillboxes with mountings on their roofs. If they are defensive, which seems plausible given their uniform appearance and strategic location, they are most probably pillboxes or some similar kind of structure. They could be the pillbox referred to in NHER 32563. It is equally possible, however, that their origin is more mundane, related to agriculture or drainage, for example. First visible on photographs taken in 1946 (S1), they were demolished or removed by July 1963 (S3).
S. Tremlett (NMP), 4 January 2007.
