Field survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 36).
Finds recovered included:
12 prehistoric worked flints.
27 ?prehistoric burnt flints.
1 medieval coin and 1 ceramic building material fragment.
7 post-medieval coins, 1 ?coin, 1 token, 2 ceramic building material fragments, 3 buckles, 1 ?belt fitting, 1 crotal, 1 fitting, 1 harness mount, 1 copper alloy spoon handle, 1 ?mount, 1 copper alloy finger ring, 1 copper alloy collar, 1 copper alloy pierced decorative disc, 1 copper alloy decorate strip, 2 copper alloy buttons, 1 silver spoon handle and 1 bone ?disc/button.
1 undatable copper alloy ingot, 2 copper waste fragments, 1 copper alloy ferrule, 3 copper alloy sheet fragments, 1 copper alloy disc, 1 copper alloy bar, 2 lead weights, 2 lead discs, 2 lead nails, 2 lead rivets, 1 lead ?fitting, 1 lead handle fragment, 2 pieces of lead shot and 36 miscellaneous lead fragments.
The area examined lies close to the recorded site of St Faith's Fairstead (NHER 8126), which presumably explains the notable concentration of medieval to post-medieval finds, many of which are typical of the types of artefact that might be found at such a site.
