Summary

A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey of part of this field in 2007 recovered objects of predominantly post-medieval date including a coin, pottery sherds, fragments of building material, clay tobacco pipe and window glass, a ?silver thimble and a copper alloy spoon handle. Other finds included prehistoric worked flints, a single burnt flint and a range of undatable lead objects. Subsequent metal-detecting in 2020 recovered a Roman coin; a Late Saxon strap end; a medieval mount or binding strip and a post-medieval lead figurine.

October 2006. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Road (Field 63).
Finds recovered included:
29 prehistoric worked flints.
1 ?prehistoric burnt flint.
1 post-medieval coin, 7 pottery sherds, 1 ceramic building material fragment, 1 clay tobacco pipe fragment, 1 window glass fragment, 1 ?silver thimble, 1 copper alloy button and 1 copper alloy spoon handle.
2 undatable copper alloy plate fragments, 2 pieces of lead shot, 2 lead rod/sheet fragments, 2 lead sheet fragments, 2 lead strips, 1 lead offcut and 2 lead waste fragments.
