Full Description
1961.
Cropmarks of small enclosures on St Joseph aerial photographs.
1981.
These are in part visible as small earthworks in pasture.
E. Rose (NAU) 26 February 1981.
Winter 1983 to 1984. In two westernmost fields of this part of the earthwork complex.
Found in rabbit-scrapes and mole-hills during earthwork survey.
Sherds of Iron Age to medieval date, see list in file.
Contexts 2 to 3.
A. Rogerson (NAU) and A.K. Gregory (NAU) 16 May 1984.
Under good grass cover, summer grazing by cattle. Some rabbit disturbance and few cattle 'scrapes'.
H. Paterson (A&E) 22 March 1996.
20 February 1997. Seen from top of Cut Off Channel embankment.
Much more cattle poaching round gates and troughs. An odd feature is a double fence that runs across the site northeast to southwest with long grass between, like an old drove yet with no access at either end and not appearing on the aerial photographs.
E. Rose (NLA) 21 February 1997.
September 2003. Metal detecting and unsystematic fieldwalking.
2 Roman coins.
Piece of molten copper alloy.
Iron Age and Roman sherds in restricted area of search.
See list in file.
A. Rogerson (NLA), 27 November 2003.
29 April 2006. Magnetometry Survey.
Several linear features, probably archaeological, were detected along with numerous ferrous objects probably associated with modern farming.
See (S1).
M. Dennis (NLA), 12 May 2006.
