Full Description
May 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of possible medieval saltern and/or building mound are visible on aerial photographs adjacent to the River Yare on the Chedgrave Marshes (S1). The mound is circular in shape and 20m across. Salterns are generally more irregular in form than this, see NHER 49235-8 for more amorphous shaped examples in the area of this site, and it is therefore possible that this low, circular mound represent the remains of a building platform, or possibly a raised area for cattle in times of flood.
S. Massey (NMP), 29 May 2008.
