Summary

The earthworks of possible medieval saltern mound are visible on aerial photographs on the edge of the Belton Marshes. This low mound is located on the edge of the former estuarine area and it is therefore feasible that it merely represents the naturally occurring peninsula of raised ground on the edge of the marshes. Other possible salterns have been recorded within this area (NHER 49235-6, 49254), although none have been proven by excavation to be the product of salt making.

The earthworks of possible medieval saltern mound are visible on aerial photographs on the edge of the Belton Marshes (S1). The possible saltern is bisected by a post medieval or early modern drainage ditch. The mound would originally have been roughly sub-rectangular in shape and approximately 85m by 30m.
