Full Description
March 2007. Trial Trench.
Excavation of single evaluation trench on Whitefriars Roundabout.
Two flint and mortar walls were recorded that were probably part of the same structure - most likely one of the buildings shown on Hochsetter''s map of 1789. Medieval brick fragments in the fabric of these walls were probably reused from an earlier structure.
A brick structure was also identified that had probably been associated with the terraced houses that once ran along the south side of Willis Street.
