Full Description
March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A group of ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 3220 2755. They are undated but they fit the pattern of enclosure depicted on modern and historic maps, and the close spacing and curvilinear outline of some (e.g. those centred at TG 3214 2758) is reminiscent of medieval strip fields. A similar group of field boundaries is visible 100m to the northwest (NHER 45252). A few of the ditches correspond with field boundaries depicted on Honing Tithe Map (S2), indicating that these at least continued in use into the post medieval period. They include part of a probable trackway that crosses the northeast corner of the site (between TG 3223 2745 and TG 3231 2746). The relationship of the ditches with the possible Iron Age or Roman square barrow to their northwest (NHER 25249) is not known.
