Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP
A cropmark of a ditch, possibly part of a curvilinear enclosure of unknown date, is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). This cropmark is centred on TG 3566 1648 and was previously recorded as part of NHER 8446. A U-shaped ditch which is up to 7m wide appears to form part of a curvilinear enclosure with external dimensions of 53m by at least 56m. The ditch lies above the 5m contour line and is unlikely to be a natural channel associated with the River Bure to the south. The date and function of this possible enclosure are unknown. It overlaps cropmarks of undated linear ditches and rectilinear enclosures (NHER 49284). Artefacts of Bronze Age to post medieval date have been found in the vicinity of these cropmarks (NHER 8446).
J. Albone (NMP), 26 March 2007

July 2012.
The resemblance of this site, both in terms of morphology and location, to the probable Saxon manorial enclosure at Gressenhall (NHER 25989) is perhaps worth considering.
S. Tremlett (HES), 25 July 2012.
