Full Description
March 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of a rectilinear enclosure and linear ditches of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3572 1654 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 8446. The main enclosure has a rectilinear plan and external dimensions of 202m by at least 163m. The southern side of the enclosure does not appear to be visible as a cropmark. Several west to east aligned ditch cropmarks are present crossing the southern part of the enclosure and the possible curvilinear enclosure (NHER 49281). Some of these ditches have a closely spaced parallel alignment and could represent a trackway. Cutting across and within the main enclosure are several linear ditch cropmarks. Some of these appear to form incomplete enclosures, but their exact shape and relationship to the main enclosure is unclear. Artefacts of Bronze Age to post medieval date have been found in the vicinity of these cropmarks (NHER 8446). The simple form of the main enclosure and incompleteness of the other cropmarks means that they could date to any point in that time range.
