Summary

The cropmarks of a ring ditch, probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Catfield House, Catfield. Another two possible round barrows are located in close proximity, NHER 49318 to the north and 49317 to the west. An alternative explanation is that the ring ditch represents the remains of the eaves-drip gully of a round house associated with the Roman settlement and activity in this area, see NHER 49324 for details.

The cropmarks of a ring ditch, probably the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Catfield House, Catfield (S1). This ring ditch was previously recorded under NHER 8330 and is centred on TG 3854 2077. Another two possible round barrows are located in close proximity, NHER 49318 to the north and 49317 to the west. All three barrows are located on the edge of the valley overlooking the valley floor and the former fens. An alternative explanation is that the ring ditch represents the remains of the eaves-drip gully of a round house associated with the Roman settlement and activity in this area, see NHER 49324 for details.

The ring ditch is 10m in diameter with a slight causeway or entrance to the north. It is not clear whether this represents an original feature.
