Summary

A cropmark of a possible square enclosure is visible on aerial photographs. Although it has the appearance of a small moat its function is unclear. It is likely that it is of medieval to post medieval date.

Map

A cropmark of a possible square enclosure is visible on aerial photographs (S1). This cropmark is centred on TG 4234 0824 and lies just to the east of Lower Farm, Tunstall. The enclosure has a sub-square plan and is defined by a 4.5m wide ditch. It measures 17m by 16m internally and has a wide entrance on its southwest side. It has the appearance of a small moat although it is more likely to have been a stock enclosure of medieval to post medieval date.
