Full Description
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A line of small structures is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1)-(S2), between TG 4002 1004 and TG 4069 1007. These form a line along the southern embankment of the Acle Diversion railway line (NHER 13572), stretching for some 675m to the east of Acle Station. They have been interpreted as a possible anti tank obstacle, composed of anti tank cubes (see (S3) for example). Closer inspection of the photographs, however, and the absence of the structures from photographs taken earlier in the year (S4), suggests that they instead represent a line of small, linked, freight or maintenance carts, and that this was a temporary post-war feature. Consequently, they have not been mapped by the NMP.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 18 May 2007.
