Full Description
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
This site consists of a group of undated and multiphase cropmarks to the west of Ranworth Priory (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 3546 1445. The majority of these cropmarks are likely to be the fragmentary remains of former field boundaries of unknown, but possible late prehistoric date. A series of field boundaries, more obviously post medieval in date were omitted from the mapping. It is possible that some of these field boundaries are contemporary and associated with the large rectangular enclosure or farmstead located within this field, thought to be Roman in date (NHER 11726). However none of the cropmarks show any direct relationship with the site.
At TG 3553 1464 a possible oval enclosure was mapped (S2), although this is of uncertain archaeological origin as a number of geological cropmarks are visible on the aerial photographs within this area and therefore this curvilinear feature may also be geological in origin.
