Summary

A earthwork bank was recorded during the Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey in 2006. It appears on maps including one from 1797 and marks the boundary between woodland to the north and Felbrigg Heath or Common to the south.

Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey. Great Wood, Site 1:
A variable east-west bank, generally 3m spead and up to 0.5m high, with a shallow ditch to its south.
It continues to the east of the road as Site 19 (NHER 50227) in Smith's Rough.
This is the boundary between woodland to the north and what is variously termed Felbrigg Heath or Common to the south on (S1)-(S5).
