Summary

Probable iron workings were recorded during the Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey in 2006. The site consists of about half a hectare of irregular depressions, most of which are less than 10m across.

Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey. Smith’s Rough, Site 21:
About 0.5 hectare area of irregular depressions, mostly less than 10m across and rarely more than 0.8m deep. Some spoil associated with them.
In the northeast is a more substantial pit, steep sided to a depth of over 2m and seemingly more recently worked.
Probable iron workings. The deeper pit could be of more recent and different function.
