Summary

A small, somewhat L-shaped mound, of unknown date, is visible as an earthwork (since levelled) on aerial photographs. It is sited on marshland immediately adjacent to Muck Fleet. Its purpose is not known, but it might have served as a livestock refuge, a stack stand or had some function associated with drainage. A relatively late, post medieval date seems probable.

Map

May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A small mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 4204 1139. Its date and purpose are not known. It might have served as a cattle refuge, a stack stand or had some function associated with drainage. Given its location on marshland, which is presumably prone to flooding, and adjacent to the substantial earthwork of Muck Fleet, which does not appear to have interfered with it, a post medieval date seems probable.

The mound is roughly L-shaped in plan, and measures 15m by 14m. It is partially surrounded by a ditch. More recent aerial photographs, e.g. (S4), suggest that the earthworks have now been levelled.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 26 May 2007.
