Full Description
May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A possible enclosure is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 4023 0995. The small, ditched enclosure might have had a function associated with agriculture (e.g. at stack stand), or stock or poultry rearing; the internal platform could, for example, have served as a nighttime refuge for domestic poultry or wildfowl. The earthwork appears to have been relatively fresh in 1946, and a relatively late, post medieval to modern date is probable. The fact that it is visible on photographs from only one year means that its archaeological significance is uncertain.
The postulated enclosure has an irregular rectilinear plan and measures 17m by 14m externally. It is defined by a wide, moat-like ditch measuring in the region of 3.5m in breadth, giving an internal platform of 9m by 7m.

The possible post medieval or modern enclosure described above may be visible as an earthwork on visualised data from a lidar survey flown in 2017-18 (S4).
