Map

March 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two military camp is visible on the aerial photographs to the west of Ludham airfield (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 3881 1997. The site consists one main camp, centred on TG 3856 1996, containing communal structures such as the dining hall, kitchens, plus accommodation huts, plus three other ancillary areas of huts and accommodation. The majority of the huts appear to nissens. The extent of the hutted camps and the plan of the major buildings and concrete structures have been plotted. The aerial photographs from 1946 (S3) provide a clear picture of the camp layout and the structures and it is not necessary to replicate this detail for the record.

Four air raid shelters, visible as groups of four slots into the ground surrounded by a blast wall or earth-covered structure, have been mapped. At TG 3872 2016 is a polygonal structure, 6m across, which has the appearance of being a gun emplacement or pillbox, although this is not certain. A similar structure was mapped to the north within NHER 34647.
S. Massey (NMP), 30 March 2007.
