Full Description
September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A group of multi-period cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Burgh Road, Wheatacre (S1-S2). The site is centred on TM 4690 9466. These cropmarks are located within the vicinity of the several phases of enclosures, fields and trackways (NHER 44981, 44983-4) potentially dating from the late prehistoric to the post medieval periods. It is therefore likely that the fragmentary cropmarks grouped together within this multi-period site represent features associated with these periods of activity. At TM 4694 9472 is a small rectangular three-sided feature or enclosure, 8m by 4m. This site is located alongside a trackway and field boundary of probable post medieval date (NHER 44893) and it is therefore possible that it is also of this date. Centred on TM 4696 9458 is a cluster of curvilinear features that could potentially be geological in origin, although this is not certain.
