Map

September 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary ditched boundaries of probable late prehistoric to Roman date are visible on aerial photographs, Aldeby (S1-S4). The site consists of a small cluster of ditches aligned NE-SW and NW-SE, centred on TM 4598 9312. These are likely to represent fragments of a field boundaries or enclosures and may be part of a much larger group of enclosures and fields to the immediate northwest (NHER 45019). To the southwest of this site excavations have revealed an extensive area of Middle Iron Age iron working (NHER 34099), although there is not obvious link between the two sites. An enclosure to the immediate south, which does not follow the same orientation as these ditches, has been interpreted as being Roman in date (NHER 44909).
S. Massey (NMP), 01 September 2006.
