Summary

Earthworks, including a bank and ditch which is a former common-edge boundary and a sub-rectangular ditched enclosure, were recorded during the Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey in 2007. Map

May 2007. Walkover Survey.
Felbrigg Estate Woodland Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey. Common Plantation, Site 15:
A 0.7 area of earthworks.
A well-defined bank and outer ditch is the former common-edge boundary linking NHER 50349 and 50350.
A sub-rectangular ditched enclosure is about 50m east-west by 31m north-south, with a central platform and two internal ponds.
The enclosure has been tentatively interpreted as a moated site by P. Wade-Martins, but the small size and the wet nature does not encourage this interpretation.
Likeliest interpretation is fish ponds.
See report (S1) for further details and 1:1000 plan.
