Map

June 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks and earthworks of a medieval to post medieval road, rectangular enclosure and field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3717 0077 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 21841. A rectangular enclosure is present at the eastern side of this group. It is defined by extant drainage ditches and measures 80m by at least 30m in plan. This feature has previously been interpreted as a moat, but there is little evidence to support this and it is probably just a field. A broad curving ditch cropmark is present to its north. This ditch follows the side of a former stream valley and corresponds to a field boundary shown on the first edition 6 inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map (S3). Further to the south is a second curvilinear feature which comprises of a bank or compacted surface flanked by ditches. This also corresponds to a field boundary on the first edition Ordnance Survey map. It has the appearance of a road but is not marked on Faden’s 1797 county map (S4). It is possible that it could be a road of medieval to early post medieval date or a banked field boundary. Linear ditches and banks of unknown date, possibly also field boundaries, are also present.
