Map

June 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of four ring ditches of Bronze Age date forming a small barrow cemetery are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S7). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3519 0247 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 17291. The largest of the ring ditches is a double ring ditch located in the north of the group. The outer ditch has a slightly sub-circular plan with a 3.5m wide ditch and an external diameter of 58m. The inner ditch is circular in plan with a 2.5m width and a diameter of 30m. Located 88m to the south-west of the centre of this ring ditch is a single ring ditch cropmark. It has a sub-circular plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of 34m. Lying 100m to its south-east, and 120m south of the large double ring ditch, is a second smaller double ring ditch. It has an incomplete narrow outer ditch with a sub-circular plan and diameter of 20m. The circular inner ditch is also narrow and has a diameter of 14.5m. Two small pit cropmarks, possibly relating to graves, are present in the south-east quarter of the inner ring ditch. The fourth ring ditch in the group lies in a slightly isolated location 152m to the south-east of the small double ring ditch. It has an incomplete circular plan with a narrow ditch and an external diameter of 26m. It is likely that all of these ring ditches relate to Bronze Age round barrows and that they form a small cemetery. A fifth ring ditch (NHER 49542) forming an outlier to the cemetery is located 200m to the north of the large double ring ditch.
