Summary

The cropmarks of a ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Surlingham village. It is possible that this represents the remains of a Bronze Age barrow, although it may be relate to a small enclosure or agricultural feature of unknown date.

The cropmarks of a ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Surlingham village (S1). The site is centred on TG 3139 0658. The ring ditch is oval in shape and measures 18m by 12m, with a break or causeway in the ditch to the east. It is possible that this represents the remains of a Bronze Age barrow, although it may be relate to a small enclosure or agricultural feature of unknown date. Finds in this general area range from Bronze Age, Roman to Saxon, medieval to post medieval in date (NHER 35080, 35835, 35978-9).
