Map

June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of undated ditches and a possible trackway are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Surlingham village (S1). The site is centred on TG 3140 0655. The site consists of a linear ditch running from SE-NW, with a possible parallel ditch to the west. It is possible that this is the remains of a trackway. The date of the cropmarks is uncertain. Finds in this general area range from Bronze Age, Roman to Saxon, medieval to post medieval in date (NHER 35080, 35835, 35978-9). It must be noted that the course of the main linear is reminiscent of the surrounding field layout and therefore it may be a post medieval field boundary.
S. Massey (NMP), 23 June 2007.
