Full Description
July 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a trackway and field boundaries of unknown, possibly medieval, date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TM 4145 9734. Intermittent cropmarks of parallel ditches, probably defining a trackway, are present on a roughly south-west to north-east alignment. Single and narrowly-spaced double ditches are present perpendicular to the possible trackway on its north-west side. It is likely that these are field boundaries defining long narrow fields that measure between 45m and 60m in width. The alignment of these cropmarks does not correspond to the post medieval field pattern. However the trackway lies roughly parallel to the modern road to its east and it is possible that it represents and earlier course of this route. The date of these cropmarks is unknown although it is possible that they are of medieval origin. Further to the south-east, short sections of undated linear ditch cropmarks were present to the south-east of ring ditch (NHER 19564) but were not mapped.

March 2017. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of excavation of water pipe trench between TM 4135 9733 and TM 4142 9779. Although the pipeline crossed the line of one of these cropmarks and lay close to two others no associated sub-surface remains were identified. It should though be noted that conditions were far from ideal, with much of the trench excavated by a drainage trenching machine and therefore very narrow.
See report (S2) and NHER 66830 for further details.
