Full Description
July 2007. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of a road of possible Roman or medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). These cropmarks are centred on TG 4116 0377 and were previously recorded as NHER 11841. Negative linear cropmarks are present for 520m on a north-west to south-east alignment. They are flanked by ditch cropmarks for part of their length. It is likely that the relate to a road and appear to continue to the north-west (NHER 49383, 49381) and south-east (NHER 30617). The alignment of the road and its relationship to adjacent field system cropmarks (NHER 11841, 49381) suggests that it could be of Roman date. However, the curving form of the southern section (NHER 30617), which links in to surviving roads, appears to be medieval in date, although they may represent later changes to its course.
