Summary

A sinuous ditch and two pits, all of unknown date, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The ditch could be associated with a road shown hereabouts on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk. The pit-like marks may be of relatively modern, agricultural origin, although the possibility that they represent Saxon grubenhauser cannot be entirely ruled out.

Map

July 2007. Norfolk NMP.
A sinuous ditch and two pit-like cropmarks, all of unknown date, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2). The ditch, which is visible between TM 3613 9597 and TM 3619 9564, could be associated with a road shown hereabouts on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk (S3). The pit-like marks visible at TM 3613 9593 and TM 3612 9577 may be of relatively modern, agricultural origin, although the possibility that they represent Saxon grubenhauser cannot be entirely ruled out.

Both pits are broadly rectilinear in plan. The northernmost measures 12m by 9m; the southernmost 22m by 15m.
