Summary

Two ring ditches, each possibly representing the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They might instead represent the remains of prehistoric roundhouses, perhaps associated with the multi-period cropmarks of fields, trackways and enclosures which surround them (NHER 49596).

Map

July 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Two ring ditches are visible as cropmarks on an aerial photograph (S1), at TM 3330 9987 and TM 3332 9989. They might plausibly represent the site of two Bronze Age round barrows, but could alternatively reflect the remains of prehistoric or Roman period roundhouses, perhaps associated with the multi-period cropmarks of fields, trackways and enclosures by which they are surrounded (NHER 49596). They appear to be respected by an element of the larger multi-period site, a multi-ditched boundary, which passes between them.

The ring ditches are both roughly circular in plan and measure approximately 11.5m in diameter. Possible internal pits or postholes are visible within the easternmost ring ditch, the eastern side of which is masked.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 23 July 2007.
