Full Description
June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway and associated boundaries of probable post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Manor Farm, Haddiscoe (S1). The site is centred on TM 4400 9712. The site consists of a trackway or minor access road, visible as a parched linear with associated external ditches running northwards from the field boundary towards the disused pit. A number of boundaries to either side of this track or road are likely to be associated field boundaries. It seems likely that this is a post medieval track or road providing access to the pit, however this appears to have a track to the east. It is possibly the remains of a field boundary that had an internal bank.
Fragments of other possible cropmarks were tentatively identified on the aerial photographs (S1) to the east of the trackway, however none could be determined with any certainty due to the oblique angle of the photograph and their positioning in the far ground of the image. Therefore none were mapped, but the possibility of further archaeological features must be noted, particularly due to the presence of Roman and Saxon finds in the general vicinity of the site (NHER 24146 and 28212).
