Full Description
June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of possible ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Crab Apple Lane, Haddiscoe (S1). The site is centred on TM 4388 9735. This identification of these cropmarks as a ring ditch is tentative due to the due to the oblique angle of the photograph and their positioning in the far ground of the image. Therefore the following interpretations are merely suggestions and it must be borne in mind that the cropmarks may the result of underlying geological features. The ring ditch may represent the remains of a former Bronze Age round barrow or alternatively it may be the eavesdrip gully of a late prehistoric to Roman date roundhouse. Roman and Saxon finds in the general vicinity of the site (NHER 24146 and 28212).
The ring ditch appears to be 7m across with two opposed causeways in the ditch and a possible central pit.
