Summary

A. Cattermole (NLA), 27 September 2007.

February 2010. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new terraced houses. Contexts from 21.
The excavation revealed a cluster of two pits and a possible linear feature or pit in the southern corner of the footings and a large rectangular pit to the north of the cluster. The large size of these pits could suggest that they may represent gravel quarrying. No dating evidence was recovered but results from the previous evaluation could suggest they are of Saxon date. The features were sealed by a sequence of buried topsoil overlain with demolition debris and a recent topsoil layer. No human remains were uncovered during the excavation.
See report (S2) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2013.105).
S. Howard (HES), 30 August 2011. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2019.
