Map

August 2007. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks relating to a possible World War Two military training site are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). A group of earthworks comprising seven linear banks, ranging from 12m to 37m in length were present in parkland to the south of Bittering Hall. Also present was a line of eleven earthwork mounds, each with a diameter of approximately 2m, that extended for 50m. Most of these features appear to have been present by March 1942 (S1) and were still present in 1946 (S2-S3). Their function is unclear but it is possible that they were used for some form of military training in the early part of World War Two.
J. Albone (NMP), 23 August 2007.
