Summary

Archaeological monitoring of groundworks to improve flood defences on the River Waveney at Burgh St Peter revealed four distinct spreads of medieval material. These finds included 13th to 14th century pottery, late medieval or early post medieval ceramic building material, and several small fragments of animal bone. A small number of Late Saxon pottery sherds were also noted.

Monitoring of groundworks to improve flood defenses on the River Waveney at Burgh St. Peter. Contexts 1-3.
Four scatters of finds were recorded. These consisted of two distinct spreads of CBM and two of pottery. The majority of the pottery was identified as 13th to 14th century medieval coarseware, although a small number of glazed wares and one sherd of Late Saxon Thetford ware were noted. Several fragments of animal bone were also recovered. No associated cut features were identified.
