Full Description
January 2008. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of residential dwelling. Contexts 1-4 used.
A large, steep-sided pit containing several Roman pottery sherds was partly exposed at the western edge of the excavation. The pit was not fully excavated, but the pottery found within it suggests that it was deposited during the 3rd century AD. Also within the pit were two fragments of Roman roof tile, probably part of an imbrex.
Disarticulated human remains were found in the topsoil, but no date could be assigned to these bones.
A single sherd of Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age Beaker pottery was also discovered in the topsoil.
See report (S1) for further information.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2016.90).
A. Cattermole (NLA), 14 October 2008. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 20 June 2019.
