Map

December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of a series of medieval to post medieval boundaries and trackways and a possible enclosure are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Manor Farm, Lyng (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 0681 1762. Medieval finds have been recovered from nearby to this site (NHER 18583 and NHER 35295). Several other areas of medieval earthworks have been recorded within this area, NHER 12303, NHER 16744 and NHER 50737. Two of these (NHER 12303 and NHER 16744) appear to represent significant medieval moated sites.

The site consists of a series of double-ditched boundaries and trackway-like features. An enclosure appears to have been constructed against one of these trackways. The earthworks appear to represent more than one phase of boundaries and tracks, potentially representing separate medieval and post medieval elements. The location of these earthworks is still grassland in 1988 (S3) and therefore it is likely that all the earthworks still remain, although not all of the components can be identified on the aerial photographs, in particular the more minor and ephemeral earthworks.
