Map

December 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a series of fragmentary field boundaries of unknown, but possibly Iron Age to Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Easthaugh Road (S1). The site is centred on TG 0861 1782. The location of the site has been destroyed through aggregate extraction. In advance of this extraction rescue excavations were undertaken on a ring ditch to the immediate south of the cropmarks (NHER 17593), although no other features were recorded as having been present within the area of excavations. Prehistoric flints in the area also attest to activity of this date (NHER 11852), although it seems likely that the fragmentary field boundaries are later in date, probably dating to the Iron Age to Roman period.

The majority of the boundaries are aligned NW-SE or NE-SW and may have originally formed a regular arrangement of fields. To the northwest of the site is an incomplete rectilinear enclosure (50m by 40m) that follows a different alignment. It is possible that this feature relates to a different and potentially later phase. A number of cropmarks seemingly relating to post medieval field boundaries visible on the 1810 Lyng Enclosure map (S2) have been omitted from the mapping.
