Summary

A rectilinear arrangement of ditches, probably representing field boundaries of post medieval date, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They are relatively well defined, and conform to the same pattern of enclosure as that depicted on 19th and 20th century maps. They overlie an extensive area of medieval field boundaries (part of NHER 39859), which have a markedly different alignment.

Map

January 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A rectilinear arrangement of ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2572 1795. They probably represent field boundaries of post medieval date, as they are relatively well defined and conform to the same pattern of enclosure as that depicted on 19th and 20th century maps. They were not, however, identified in an excavation which extended across the central portion of the site (see plan (S2)), indicating that they could instead represent more ephemeral marks of very recent, presumably agricultural, origin. Other boundaries of similar date have been identified a short distance to the north (NHER 50787) and south (NHER 50780). The cropmarks described here overlie an extensive area of medieval field boundaries (part of NHER 39859), which have a markedly different alignment.
