Summary

In 1955 foundations of a rectangular structure were discovered near to the Old Rectory. It may be the remains of a possible medieval water cistern, although no objects were found in association.

October 1955.
South side of Old Rectory and about 30 yds away.
Foundations of rectangular structure found and partly excavated by occupant. Floor of interior very even and hard - appears to be cement or mortar with ash mixed with it. Sides have traces of cement lining about 3/16 inch thick. Possibly water cistern. No associated objects but H. Tyrrell-Green suggests possible Norman date from regular courses of flint.
