Full Description
February 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A group of broadly rectilinear ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2849 1510. Their date and function are unknown. They lie in an area of intense archaeological activity, principally evidenced by cropmarks, but do not appear to relate to any of the other sites recorded in the vicinity. Their rather ‘jumbled’, irregular appearance, with different elements seemingly overlying one another, may indicate that they are of geological rather than archaeological origin, cropmarks relating to frost cracking and probable solution features being common in the area. Nevertheless, they are a relatively consistent group in terms of their character and orientation, etc., and consequently have been mapped by the NMP.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 6 February 2008.
October 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area.
This survey identified no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with these cropmarks, which would support the suggestion that they are not in fact archaeological in origin.
See report (S2) and NHER 66808 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 8 November 2023.
