Summary

A disparate group of rather fragmentary and irregular ditches, including a number of possible enclosures, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They lie in an area notable for its extensive multi-period cropmarks, many of which can be grouped and phased due to their distinctive pattern and orientation. This includes a group of possibly medieval fields and enclosures (NHER 32239), which overlaps with the eastern side of those described here. The latter show no overall patterning and may represent several phases of activity.

Map

February 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A rather disparate group of fragmentary ditches is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S6), centred at TG 2876 1614. They are quite irregular and demonstrate no overall pattern or coherence. It is likely that they date to more than one phase of activity. Some may relate to field boundaries depicted on Wroxham Tithe Map (S7). The cropmarks also include a number of possible enclosures, although as these are only partially visible it is difficult to positively identify them as such, or to guess at their function. They contrast with some of the more distinctive patterns of cropmarks visible in the surrounding area, which can be grouped and phased thanks to their shared orientation and character. These include the group of probable medieval fields and enclosures (NHER 32239), which overlaps with the eastern side of those described here.
