Map

February 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of High House Farm, Billingford (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 0006 2086. The trackway leads down the valley side to the River Wensum to the west. The trackway consists of a series of parallel bank and ditch cropmarks, although it seems likely that the bank-like linears within the centre of the track represent the remains of compacted sections of track rather than actual banks. The track is quite braided and is likely to have been used over a relatively long period. It is assumed that the feature is medieval to post medieval in date, although there is no historical map evidence to corroborate this interpretation. The earliest map consulted dated to around 1700-25 (S3). Although it is probable that a trackway may be omitted from an estate map concerned with land ownership and parcels.
