Full Description
March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of a possible post medieval millpond and associated water management features, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) to the immediate south of the former eighteenth century mill site of the Swanton Mill (NHER 12586). The site is centred on TG 0198 8349. The site consists of a broad elongated sunken area, which is fed by a channel coming off the main River Wensum channel. It is assumed that this acted as a millpond for the mill. A number of low banks appear to post-date this pond have been constructed over the top of this feature. It seems likely that these form some sort of flood defence.
S. Massey (NMP), 03 March 2008.
