Full Description
February 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The site of World War Two military training features surrounding the County School, a Watts Naval Training School from 1903 to 1949 (NHER 2934), are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The site consists of a number of trenches, pits and embankments in the grounds and fields surrounding the school. The presence of a World War Two rifle range is located immediately to the south (NHER 50914) and a small group of weapons pits (NHER 50912) recorded within Bintree Woods to the east, would suggest that the training school had been commandeered for military use during the war, although it is possible that some of these features relate to the pre-war activities of the Naval Training School. This site is outside of the ALSF NMP mapping area so none of the features have been mapped.
S. Massey (NMP), 28 February 2008.
