Summary

The site of World War Two military training features surrounding the County School, a Watts Naval Training School from 1903 to 1949 (NHER 2934) are visible on aerial photographs. The presence of a World War Two rifle range is located to the immediate south (NHER 50914) and a small group of weapons pits (NHER 50912) recorded within Bintree Woods to the east, would suggest that the training school had been commandeered for military use during the war, although it is possible that some of these features relate to the pre-war activities of the Naval Training School.
